Sheriff Jose A. Salazar is a lifelong resident of Willacy County and in 2020 was elected to serve as Willacy County’s 11th Sheriff. Sheriff Salazar has been a Peace Officer since 2000, and began his law enforcement career as a Jailer with the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Salazar has worked in Willacy County for most of his law enforcement career, and prefers it this way. He has always wanted to help his own community. In 2016, Sheriff Salazar was elected to the position of Constable precinct 2, where he implemented new programs never before seen for this precinct. Through grant work he was able to hire Deputy Constables to help patrol his precincts. As Constable, he brought in community events such as National Night Out and Coffee with the Constable as well as Come fly a Kite with the Constable. Sheriff Salazar has always believed in building partnerships between law enforcement and the community. 

 

 

Sheriff Salazar’s fundamental belief is to give back to the community that has given so much to him and his family. For the past 20+ years Sheriff Salazar has volunteered countless hours to various youth organizations, from Little League, to Booster Clubs, to Flag Football, and most recently for the past 10 years as Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 440, where he has helped mentor young boys in the community. The Sheriff understands that the future lies with our youth and is proud in having a hand in shaping their futures.

Sheriff Salazar has been married to his wife Marisela for 23 years and they are the proud parents of 3 adult children.
